Inspection is a crucial step when it comes to undertaking repairs or installing French drains in your building. Indeed, it is important to know the current state of the system in place before replacing it. An accurate diagnosis can save you several thousand dollars.
The primary purpose of the inspection is to check the condition of the drain in order to determine:
In many cases, the problem is only partial and repairing the damaged or blocked section of the drainage system will be sufficient to solve the moisture and water seepage issues you may experience. There is no need to undertake unnecessary work to replace the entire system if it is still functional!
The first step in the inspection is to excavate one or more access wells around the foundation to be able to access the drainage system. This excavation also makes it possible to check certain elements such as the position of the drain and the backfill materials, two essential factors for good drainage. Once the excavation is complete, part of the drain is cut and then removed to insert the camera, which can then capture and show us pictures of the state of the drainage system. The recordings are then studied to determine the cause and location of the problem.
Camera inspection is generally carried out from the outside, but may occasionally be carried out from the inside when the drain is connected to a catch basin.
